What is root canal therapy?
Root canal therapy, also known as endodontic treatment, is a procedure to treat necrotic pulp and root infections, through which the tooth can be preserved. The tooth has a special structure, it is surrounded by hard enamel and dentin, and in the middle is the pulp chamber, which often becomes a channel for bacterial transmission when an infection occurs in the tooth. Root canal treatment is the process of removing the infected pulp from the root canal, the pulp chamber, and filling it with an antiseptic to isolate the pathway for bacterial transmission, thus protecting the tooth and allowing it to continue to be used.
The process of root canal treatment:
The first step is to take an X-ray to determine the treatment plan.
Second step: A local anaesthetic is administered to make the root canal treatment painless, as the tooth is drilled through to remove the decayed and necrotic tissue.
The third step: the pulp chamber is opened and the necrotic pulp is removed.
The fourth step is to enlarge the root canal with a root canal drill.
The fifth step is to flush the inside of the root canal with an antiseptic fluid, usually sodium hypochlorite solution.
The sixth step is the filling of the root canal with a special root canal filling material to ensure that the remaining tooth remains sterile for a long time.
The final step: the tooth is filled with a defect or a crown is placed.
