PFM Porcelain Dental Crown
PFM Porcelain Crown Introduction:
Porcelain fused metal crowns (or PFM crowns) can be referred to as all-cast crowns, which have porcelain fused to most or all of the tooth. Metal alloys with high melting temperatures are used to fuse the porcelain to the surface and prevent the metal from melting. This ensures that the porcelain will bond without changing its color. When a tooth is prepared for this type of crown, most of the tooth tissue is removed to make room for porcelain and metal. Porcelain crowns are the most popular because they match the color of adjacent teeth more easily than metal crowns. However, they do more damage to opposing teeth than resin and metal crowns. In some cases, the porcelain part of the crown may also break or fall off the tooth. In the case of receding gums, this type of crown is not suitable as the porcelain will start to show. They are best for back and front teeth.
