Ken's classification of edentulous

February 3, 2023

There are four types of edentulous Ken's:
1. Missing posterior teeth on both sides;
2. Unilateral posterior tooth loss, remaining teeth exist;
3. The back teeth are missing on one side, but there are teeth on the front and back;
4. The front teeth are missing, the front teeth crossing the midline are missing consecutively, and all the remaining teeth are behind the missing teeth.

Clinically, we can see a variety of patients with different types of dentition and even the entire dentition. For different situations and different types, different repair methods are usually adopted. For example, a type of bilateral free loss, where both posterior teeth are missing, could only be repaired with removable dentures in the past, but now it can be repaired with implants to achieve the effect of fixed dentures. For example, the fourth category, the continuous loss of front teeth, is very difficult and demanding to restore because it involves aesthetics. Now, fixed dentures or implant dentures can be used to restore the front teeth and restore their appearance.
