Edition refers to the incomplete dentition of permanent teeth caused by partial tooth loss. Dentition defects will affect the patient's mastication, auxiliary pronunciation function, and aesthetics, and may also affect the health of the oral and jaw system. The position and quantity of missing teeth are different, and the aspects and degrees of their impact are also different. In order to restore the dysfunction caused by dentition defects and the damage to the health of the oral and jaw system, artificial replacement materials are usually used to restore the anatomical shape and physiological functions of missing teeth. Denture defects can be treated with removable partial dentures, fixed bridges, and implant dentures.
1. Removable partial dentures, commonly known as movable dentures, can be used to repair the loss of multiple teeth in a single tooth or all the teeth in the upper and lower jaws. Its characteristic is that dentures need to be worn and cleaned every day, but it has relatively few requirements for the patient's physical condition.
2. Fixed bridge refers to using the two ends of the missing tooth space or one end of the natural tooth or tooth root as the abutment tooth, making a retainer on it, connecting it with the artificial tooth as a whole, and using cement to fix the retainer on the abutment. Its advantage is that it does not need to be worn and removed, and its chewing efficiency is better than that of movable dentures, but more tooth tissue needs to be cut.
3. Implant denture refers to the implantation of implants in the alveolar bone of the edentulous area of the oral cavity, that is, after the artificial tooth root survives the implant, a restoration is made on its upper end to complete the restoration of the denture. Its advantage is that it can significantly improve the patient's masticatory function, and the comfort is similar to natural teeth. In addition, dentition defects can also be repaired with attachments and telescopic crown dentures.
